Our Past, The Present & Future
In 1952, Glenn W. and Ruby D. Brock, owners of the Brock Funeral Home in Portsmouth, purchased the McCurdy Funeral Home in Wheelersburg (now occupied by Everett Williams Furniture.) The Brock's operated the Funeral Home at that location until 1957, when they purchased the Marting Home, located at Gallia Pike and Hayport Road on the "Triangle". In the 1960's, the Brock's hired Robert Stratton as a Funeral Director and Embalmer. Bob worked at both the Wheelersburg and Portsmouth Funeral Homes.
In 1972, the Brock's remodeled the Wheelersburg location, adding an additional chapel as well as a kitchen, formal hallway and a carport. In 1977, Glenn Brock sold the Funeral Home to Bob Stratton and the Funeral Home was then renamed Bob Stratton Funeral Home, and he continued to operate the business until 1983. In late 1995, David and Maria Swick purchased the Funeral Home and renamed it the D.W. Swick Funeral Home, and in 2002, a new chapel and restroom facilities were constructed, giving the Funeral Home an additional 2,500 square feet of space.
In 2001, David L. Bussa joined the staff as Funeral Director and Embalmer. David, a Sciotoville native, graduated from Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science in 1995, and is married to Cheryl Endicott, a Wheelersburg native, and they have 1 son, Gareth. David O. Chamberlin received his Funeral Director's license in 1997, and came aboard in 2003. He is a Wheelersburg native and is married to Sharon Evans, and they have 2 daughters and 1 grand-daughter. In June 2006, David and Maria Swick sold the Funeral Home to David L. Bussa and David O. Chamberlin and the new name is now Swick - Bussa - Chamberlin Funeral Home.
New landscaping in fall 2006 as well as new interior changes highlight the inside and outside of the Funeral Home.
We are a very proud supporter of the local schools, firefighters, E.M.T.'s and non profit organizations as well. We also continue to be active in churches, fraternal organizations, civic affairs,
